A Different Way of Doing Things

Here at the The Outdoors Trader we have a different philosophy on how to do things.

When we set out to build this forum, our intent was to create a fun place to hang out and trade, and to avoid doing all the things we found so annoying on other forums. Near the top of our “annoying things” list was advertisements ALL OVER THE PLACE! We believe that this takes away from the enjoyment of site users and makes a forum a much less appealing place to be. Some of the worst offenders have so many ads that you don’t even know what is part of the site and what is an advertisement. Navigating some of these sites is like doing a maze with your mouse, one wrong move and you’ll have a Toyota truck taking up your entire screen!

We also think the “ad, ads, everywhere” approach is unfair to advertisers. On some forums you may be able to get an ad on every page for $50, but you’re also competing with 50 other advertisements all around you. What are the chances that someone is even going to notice your postage stamp sized ad in all that mess?

For these reasons we currently only offer one advertising option, a nice, big, 728x90 pixel banner that is displayed at the top of all forum pages. We believe this is best for both our users and our advertisers. If you run an ad with us, you won’t have to worry about having to stick out in a sea of banners, you’ll be the only one on the page, right there at the top!

Our Banner Ads

As mentioned before, we currently only offer one advertising option, a 728x90 pixel banner that is displayed at the top of the screen.

All of our banners are “click-able,” so whenever it is clicked by a site user they will be taken to whatever destination you designate. We also provide you with a link where you can check your banner’s stats up to the second. It keeps track of all the clicks and impressions your banner receives.

All banners are put into our system and then randomly served to our users. This helps make the most of your advertising money, as you avoid being displayed multiple times to the same user on the same visit.

You can choose for your banner to be displayed on all pages of the site or you can pick specific forums. By picking specific forums you increase the chance of your ad being served to the right audience. For example, if you are an Archery Shop, you could choose to just be displayed in our Archery related forums.

Currently The Outdoors Trader receives 307,000 visits from 76,948 unique visitors a month, the vast majority of which are in Georgia, right around 97%. We also get just over 5 Million page views a month.

Advertising Rates

Our advertising rates are pretty simple. We charge $0.50 per 1,000 impressions, or $50 per 100,000 impressions. An impression occurs every time your banner ad is displayed on someone's screen.

The minimum advertising buy is $50, which would be 100,000 impressions. For reference, currently you can expect to get anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 impressions a month per banner ad if you are displaying in all forums. If you pick a specific forum to be displayed in, your advertising buy could last much longer.

If you have an event coming up soon and need to get the word out, we can put your banner into our system more than once so you receive more impressions in a shorter time period. There is no extra cost to do this, as you are still only receiving the set number of total impressions that you ordered.

For payment, we accept paypal, cash, check, or money order. Trades can also be discussed if you have something of value we may be interested in.
