Surprisingly the XTP has the same penetration as 9mm Speer Gold Dots & Federal HST's... two of my favorite 9mm loads.
About 12 1/2" to 14" consistently. Much better than the .380 Crit. Defen. which is a bit shallow in the same testing media.
Interesting how some loads are more susceptible to the than others.
That's something to watch carefully in all calibers.
Back when I was doing classes almost daily a few years ago is what made me get a dedicated class "teaching" gun to take at least some wear & tear off both my carry gun &...
Actually even in their tests the XTP penetrated more than the Gold Dot (my 2nd choice) or Crit. Defen. which as I mentioned is my 1st priority on such a small, weak round.
On youtube both "tnoutdoors09" & "shootingthebull410" found reasonable, consistent (for a .380) expansion & exceptional...
I had a lengthy conversation with a member on here about that very topic.
He asked what I recommend to students.
After considerable research the round I feel has the best terminal performance is the Hornady XTP in about any commercial loading that it comes in.... American Gunner, Fiochi...
Yeah.... my son goes down there & 2 wks. ago on a Satur. night I'm pretty confident it was 2 of those liberals who jumped him on campus when he was headed back to his dorm.
Fortunately he is very capable at taking care of himself so it worked out ok.
He's out of town or he would attend.
Good...
This is the kind of story line liberals hate to hear but really helps support responsible concealed carry.

That was the problem... it really liked going fast. the torque band was pretty wide so it was very responsive. And the acceleration was quick. The guy who bought it was an Instructor at the Porsche driving school down in Atlanta.
But the V-Stroms were (& I believe are) great for a lot of...
At one time just a few years ago I had 3 Suzuki V-Stroms.... one ABS & two standard.
LOVED those bikes. But a friend has a Buell Ulysses that would pull away on long straights so, after much research narrowed it down to the Ducati Supermoto & the KTM Super Duke.
Wound up going w/ the SuperDuke...
Like so many others I've found the 19 to be the "Goldilocks gun" for best all around use.
The 17 fits my hand a little better but prints too much.
The slightly smaller grip on the 19 allows me to discreetly carry in all kinds of environments & move freely.... stretching, bending, turning, etc...
Every single day for over 6 years w/ zero exceptions... in both social & professional environments as well as in classes or at the range.
G-19 w/ a spare G-17 Mag., 4" Spyderco Resilience folder, Streamlight PT-2L Tac. Light, etc,
Pistol carried in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster around 3:30ish.
