Item Description: Ok, I had this listed before and I had a bunch of people interested in it however my ding dong son had a fit when I told him I was selling it. It is a month later now and he hasn't even asked about it much less ridden it. I had it out playing around on it today and he never even got off the couch. That said, I don't have room for three bikes, so if he isn't going to show interest in this one, it is going to go.
It is a 1986 Honda XL250R. It is in good condition for a 30 year old bike. I fired it up today at 32 degrees after sitting for a month. It took a bunch of choke and a good 10 or so kicks, but it fired right up. When it isn't 32 degrees outside it almost always fires up on first or second kick. It is cold blooded so when you first fire it up it is best to let it run for a couple of minutes before you take off or you might end up killing it and hitting your crotch on the triple clamp as it comes screeching to a halt.
Bike has just over 10k miles on it. Good rubber, new seat cover and mirrors.
Issues.
1.Bike has small oil leak on top end. It looks to be just an o ring that need replaced but honestly it is only a couple of drops after you turn it off so I haven't worried about it. It had an oil leak on the selecter shaft gasket but I replaced that so that issue is gone.
2. The kick start lever is missing the little ball bearing that holds the kick starter next to the engine while riding. Another easy fix, as a matter of fact an entire kick start lever assembly is less than 25 bucks, but I have just been strapping it to the frame like we used to do when I rode motocross. Honestly, even when fixed I would still secure the lever to the frame while riding. A kick start lever can ruin your day if it pops out while riding off road.
3. It needs a throttle return cable. Again, another thing that I haven't really worried about. The throttle is spring loaded so it functions normally without the throttle return cable.
Bike is located in Rome and has current tag and title as well as insurance. I have a small trailer and can deliver it for the right trade deal or a small fee.
Here is a video of it being ridden last October.
