ATLANTA - The NAACP is holding a gun buy-back program at 6 p.m. at a northwest Atlanta church as part of ongoing efforts to cut back on gun-related violence in the community.

People will be able to turn in their firearms for money at the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church Family Fellowship Center at 1202 West Marietta Street. The event is part of Project Rescue Atlanta, being called Phase 1.

He pointed to the tragic mass shooting in at a Mother's Day parade in New Orleans on Sunday as a reason for the community to do something about it.

"But it helps us because if we can do something to prevent violence, it makes it safer not only for the citizens, but also for our officers, and plus it might reduce the population of the jail with violent offenders," said Jackson.
