  1. So who all rides motorcycles?????

I like handlebar mounts. Don't have to look at your phone all the time and I'm probably not pushing it too hard if I'm riding unfamiliar area and know my turn is coming up.
  2. Turkey Cooks 🦃

My Turkey Day brisket. Still hours to go.
  3. Thanksgiving

Smoking a 15lb packer brisket Sweet potato souffle Mac and cheese Cornbread muffins Others are roasting veggies, baking a pumpkin pie and providing something to wash it all down with.
  4. Do you have a traditional "savings" account?

Assets are not a factor in credit scores, length of credit history, payment timeliness and credit utilization are. If he's never borrowed, credit bureaus have no way of predicting how likely he is to pay it back once he does. Besides, he doesn't have firearms, that doesn't sound very trustworthy.
  5. Do you have a traditional "savings" account?

Funny enough, the way this information is reported and then used in all sorts of analyses and articles, there's no way to distinguish between people paying off their balance in full every month and those still making minimum payments to pay for their Spring Break 2012. So yes, technically you...
  6. Do you have a traditional "savings" account?

Wow, this sounds terrible. Now what's $1,950 worth when adjusted for inflation the same way? My recollection of middle school math suggests that the PV of 1,950 should be somewhat less than the PV of 101,000 but I know that in the gold and silver land math works differently. In the long run...
  7. When did you/do you plan to take SS?

Monthly withholdings % varies based on income during that pay period but the actual tax amount and % is calculated when you're doing your taxes prior to April 15 of the following year and depend on total annual taxable income. If you overpaid during several really good months, you likely get a...
  8. Butt suggestions

This is it. I used to inject every time but stopped recently and have not noticed any difference. The only slight adjustment to the above is the temp, I like it around 203-205 but that's easily within a margin of error.
  9. Home cured Salmon...

    Spice coated almonds.
  10. Home cured Salmon...

Liquid smoke works well, but the real thing is better.
  11. Do you have a traditional "savings" account?

Why does this have to brought up in every single money or finance thread? Precious metals are OK stores of value and do offer protection against inflation but have a ton of volatility and pricing bubbles of their own as well as extremely high transaction costs to be effective investments or...
  12. Home cured Salmon...

Looks great! This stuff is delicious and super easy to make. Takes well to some light smoke too.
  13. Send It?

One of the things I like about riding is how much focus it requires. When I'm on a bike, it is the single thing I'm thinking about. There's no room for worries and mental problem solving, it's the ultimate stress releiver. If it's above 40F and not raining, I'm riding. Commuting in metro...
  14. T-Bills

Few reasons. * T-bills are what's known as risk-free. Banks and credit unions are not, sure you have the FDIC/NCUA covering the first $250k but I'd rather not deal with it, especially since banks offering these higher rates tend to be financially weaker and struggling to attract deposits. *...
  15. What's going on the smoker/grill today?

Air cured and cold smoked pork tenderloin. The finished product is the first from the left.
  16. T-Bills

Incorrect. State and local tax-exempt only. If you want federal tax exemption you need to look at munis. That’s for another thread.
  17. What's going on the smoker/grill today?

    Last weekend.
  18. T-Bills

No way to compound interest unless doing new investments. The closest thing you can do is linking Treasury Direct to a HY savings account that pays 5% or better.
  19. When did you/do you plan to take SS?

Not planning on seeing a penny from SS, but for my relatives and friends near retirement age, I generally recommend delaying benefits until 70, assuming they have sufficient assets to make it to 70 without reducing their lifestyle. Not only the numbers make sense, it's also a form of an insurance.
  20. How we think about money

Appraiser, huh? Back when I used to finance commercial real estate projects, the joke was that MAI stands for Made As Instructed. :p Anyway, you're not completely wrong and in many ways I agree with you, just don't have your level of confidence. Posted this few weeks ago in a Politics & Hot...
