Can't speak for venison, but my wife has a routine for all the cheap cuts of beef & pork. She washes & pats dry, then she sprinkles sugar liberally on all surfaces and lets them set for 4 or more hours (usually overnight) in the fridge. The next morning she fixes them up with her usual spices...
When I was a kid (in Kansas) it was a big deal. Guys would have trucks set up specifically for hunting with dogs. They spotted the coyote, pulled the lever to the dog boxes and the dogs did the rest. If the pelt was torn, or had a bullet hole, the buyer wouldn't buy them. Military used to use...
I looked up the definition thinking the use was limited to pork, and found it wasn't an exclusive term.
Haven't tried it with venison, or with anything whole, but with sliced meats, my wife spreads sugar lightly over all surfaces and lets it set for at least an hour, usually overnight...
You going to be backing him up with a real gun if he needs a follow up?
Really, if the kid can shoot, and you keep him up close, and he doesn't clench, I don't see any problem.
Isn't it better to have the non-hunters shoot tame deer, rather then traipse all over your property cutting fences and rutting your pasture, spooking the deer you want to hunt.
I can see the fanatics infecting stock to stop hunting, just like the tree huggers spike trees out west to hurt loggers...
I may have mentioned it before, but in Gig Harbor, Washington about 15 years or so ago, a couple kids were messing around in their back yard. They shot a black bear with either a 22 or a pellet gun, right in the eye. I can't remember which, and killed the bear dead.
Just smear that sauce on your shirt first. I think you can leave the fork at home.
I've never "et a bar". Is it as greasy as they say?
The rug would be cool, but my wife got rid of all my other pelts. She said they freaked her out.
The teeth and claws would make cool accessories.
One of these would be cool. No pesky sawed off shotgun rules, it's a pistol.
Might be kind of hard to find pinfire ammo. May need to find a percussion model.
Some of you guys have been reading way too many survival magazine stories. Just take something light enough to carry easily that you can hit with.
Remember Deliverance?:)
