Normally that's exactly what I would do. Heck, I bought a holster once because I loved it and got the gun that went in it later. Recently I bought a bunch of .357 sig ammo because it was a good deal and then had to search high and low for a gun to shoot it in!

Found a box of powder in my neighbor's trash when I was a kid. Poured it into a pile in my driveway and flicked matches at it. Got closer and closer until it finally lit. Had to explain to my parents why I had no eyelashes, eyebrows, or hair on the front of my head...
I would not recommend pouring it in a pile on the driveway and then getting real close to it and dropping a match on it - unless you really don't like your hair, eyebrows, or new prescription glasses. I once knew an idiot teenager that did something that stupid. Now I'm a slightly less idiotic...
