About 70% of'em made past 300k miles with a dozen or so in 500k +
  2. Toyota engines...

Some sort of starch is my guess. Stuff maintained hard jello/ soft rubber like consistency in hot water.
  3. Toyota engines...

The Toyota engine graveyard... Drivers who struggle with 5k mile oil change intervals should consider EV. Maintenance would be similar to Power wheels of their childhood. Angry girlfriend killed a Toyota truck... foreign material in crankcase to block off oil strainer.
  4. 1992 Nissan Hardbody Truck Tranny Trouble

That's reverse lockout, to prevent accidental 5th to reverse shift. Which is silly worry cause for max. acceleration, you'd go 5th to 3rd, red line the engine in 3rd, THEN shift into 4th. ☺
  5. Toyota engines...

Bit of maintenance will go long ways... There's no engine that'll stay together when repeatedly pushed past it's limitations. Had to go dig this one back out for pic. 3UR/ 5.7L with 6.0L stroker kit installed for forced induction. Machine shop work and assembly was done by Mickey mouse. ARP...

The inspiration for 3cyl turbocharged engine. Can't break #4 rod, if there's no #4 rod... And the valve that really wanted to stay in the head.
  7. Toyota engines...

You'll have to take this "well maintained and last forever" nonsense somewhere else. This thread is about neglect, abuse, and destruction... J/K Your 2UZ is almost as clean as 3RZ/ 2.7L in my 1998 Tacoma with 270k. Two more from January and February.

If 4qts of oil brings the level to "max" then 4 MORE qts would be beyond "max" and make it mo better...
  9. Taco 3.5 VS 4.0 V6

Both are tough engines. Please take your time and find a well maintained one, unless you're looking at a new one. I know you treat your vehicle(s) well. Here's 3.5 replacement for someone who went wheeling, cracked the radiator then decided to drive down the mountain while overheating... to the...

Most repairable engine failures don't come to me. Ones that suffered catastrophic failures do. Don't get to see too many normal overheated engines, often melted and seized. This one was bit painful, not the usual neglect and/ or abuse. Or end of service life. 2010 GX470 with 43k miles. Top...
  12. Toyota engines...

2UZ-FE with over 300k miles, ran low on engine oil and coolant. Driven until engine started to jump timing and start snapping exhaust valves.
  13. Toyota engines...

16V / 4 Cyl, the head is off of 2AZ-FE. I believe it had slow leak at the water pump, owner kept adding water into radiator lowering the boiling temperature. Metal head gasket held on as steam erode into #2 and #3 cyl.
  14. Toyota engines...

Should have called me, I got bunch of fan brackets. ( better known as fake water pump ) Water pump is behind the fan bracket driven by the timing belt. This is 3MZ-FE but 5VZ-FE is near identical in configuration.

...can be killed. It takes some effort though. This one was driven long enough without coolant to steam erode a port into combustion chamber.
  16. Any recommendations for head resurfacing/rebuild?

I know a guy, but the shop he works at is in Canton. Pair of 3MZ-FE heads being worked on. In case you want to go big, they'll cover that too. :D
  17. Whats your favorite American muscle car?

1969~1970 Mustang. A friend back in college had 69 with 428 Cobra-Jet. It was awesome.
