Don't know how they are now, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my Ducane. It's well under $1000...and cooks awesome once you figure out the temperature controls. Not that they are hard...just figuring out how hot HI/MED/LO are on the grill. It's nothing fancy...but it has held up well without any...
I've got a big older Ducane grill...and I love it. It's about due for a freshening (new grates and new ceramic bricks), but it still cooks way better than any other grill I have ever owned. It's was a $500 grill when I bought it...but it's been worth the money IMO...

I always season mine like I would steaks. Usually Montreal steak seasoning. Onions in the meat mix, along with an egg and some bread crumbs to make everything stick together.
