12/22 Update: I need a GOOD boat mechanic.

Had a similar problem with a Kawasaki Jet Ski. And I hate to say it, but myself or the mechanic never could pinpoint the exact problem. They tried electrical, spark, fuel system, computer, fuses. It never could run right. Every time they "thought" they'd fixed it, it did it again. Ended up selling it. Moral of the story, it's hard to find competent boat mechanics.

I'm behind so let me know if I've got this straight.

So, you left the boat with them and after a lot of stalling they figure out it was a simple problem they overlooked? Then they didn't hook everything back up before they returned it to you?

No. The current mechanic is the third one that has had it and they seem okay. They are a certified Evindure dealer and mechanic's shop. (Johnson makes Evinrude) They just didn't hook up the choke hose after trying to fix the fuel system problem. Oops. They spotted what they had done immediately and repaired it while I waited. They are also crediting me the cost on the repair they had done to fix the original fuel system issue because it didn't work, which was their first contact with the boat. I didn't ask for that.

The first mechanic was a scum ball and I suspect is the reason I'm having these problems now. The motor ran great until he got it. All I was going to have him do was fix the wiring on a couple of gauges (which I have since had to have redone) and put new tires and bearings on the trailer. I decided to go ahead and have him put the new trolling motor and sonar unit on it and a couple of other small things since he already had it. That turned into a nightmare and I had to go to his place and demand my boat back after he had it for months and it became clear that both he and his wife were lying their asses off about what was going on. This is the guy that still owes me $400 for work he never did.

The second mechanic shop I took it to seem like good enough folks, but it has become clear they don't really know what they are doing. They tried, but ended up costing me time and money with no resolution of the problem. The fuel supply problem actually showed up for the first time when they took it out for a test run after doing detailing and doing a couple of things the first mechanic did not do.

Sorry for your boat troubles, better to get them resolved now on dry ground than out on the lake

Has something to do with putting under a load. If it fires up and runs with in neutral but dogs and dies throttling up sounds like pure fuel issues.

Got a picture of the boat? Must be a little nicer if you are willing to put the money into it getting it fixed up.

First guy doing the work at his house? You mentioned him and his wife were lying.

It is nice and perfect for what I want it for. 20 foot Center Console Hydra Sport. It only drafts 18 inches so I can fish the flats, but can handle some rough water so I could do off shore as long as I don't get stupid about it. That means near shore is very safe. What I want it for is fresh water, inshore and near shore (no more than five miles out) fishing. It's also got a 258 mile range on a single tank of gas. I bought it from a retired Coast Guard Cutter Captain in Panama City, so it is in immaculate condition.

First guy is a mobile mechanic, but said he needed to take the boat to his "shop" to do the tires and bearings. Yeah, it sat in his yard for months.
