16"/50 caliber naval gun

I watch them true the 16" guns at Bethlehem steel when they reactivated the New Jersey during the Viet Nam conflict.

We had a professor who was a German naval arms expert, recruited by Bethlehem Steel ca. 1916, He showed us the "firing range" where they tested the tubes -they strapped them to a rail flatcar, shot into a cliff, and had a mile of open siding behind the car. They just let the recoil roll the car as far as it would go, and push it back up to the cliff.
