Georgia was a great team this year, but their schedule was garbage. They didn't get put through the gauntlet the SEC can be this year or last. Outside of Tennessee, which they got at home, the schedule was a joke. How many top 25 teams did they play outside of the post season?

Beating the crap out of lucky team (TCU) does not make a historic team.

Not taking anything away. I think they would beat some serious teams, but they really didn't beat many this year. Not their fault, they beat everyone they lined up against.

Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Miss State, LSU, Ohio St, TCU all finished ranked. Dawgs beat them by an average of 29 points. They also played in the tougher SEC division this year. East had a winning record against the West even with Vandy going 0-2.

But a team that might actually be in the top 5 best when you play might not be by end of season, and a team that is unranked or low might actually be good.
Injuries, transfers, coaching changes, dismissals, etc. Happen throughout the season. Duggan didnt start the season, but because of injury he got his chance an excelled.
Florida lost Franks in the kentucky game in 2019 and Trask was named starter. Completely different team because of one change.

No perfect system, but endo of year ranks factor in all the good and bad. Pre season and even the first 3-4 weeks ranking is a joke most of the time
