2022-23 Way too early “Deer”Rifle thread

Never deer hunted but going this season. What’s a good .308 bolt gun/optic setup for north GA woods? Say under $1,250 total if that’s reasonable.

I know absolutely nothing about scopes or bolt guns.

A Ruger American Predator & a VX3 Leupold will be hard to beat.

Savage Model 11 in .308 with a Bushnell 3-9x40

I have a Savage 11 that I have hunted with the past 3 years. I have a Boyds Thumbhole stock on mine. It is zero'ed in with 150 grain Winchester Power Points. I have shot around 14 deer with it and all shots were heart/lungs or lungs. None ran more than 20 yards before you heard them stumbling and/or crash.

I wanted to go to 180 grain Winchester Power Points but refused to change up anything on my Savage 11 because it shoots so well. So I just bought another 308 to zero with 180 grain bullets. I plan to shoulder shoot with these and see how they perform.

Nice rifle...^^^^ I'll need meat this year. As usual, start with Remington 700 ML with 44 sabot 240gr SFP. That's usualy all I need during ML season. And I'm done
