So, what length stake do you use and how deep do you drive it in the ground? I cut about 24" rebar and drove them half way in. My concern is that the ground is very soft. Can a coon slide the chain up the stake and steal my trap?

my property is all woods
I prefer a 3 foot long cable, and loop the cable around a small sapling and cover cable with leaves
the cable does not affect or bother them

on your rebar stake, cut a 3" piece of rebar and weld to one end to make a T
or as stated above, weld a large washer on

Anyone have any videos or sources for better hide tanning? I can’t seem to keep them soft. They get very rigid. Not good for making caps etc.

I use this and get it at Cabelas
be sure to remove all fat, meat, & skin from the hide
prep is the key

I keep a drill and Sheetrock screws in the 4 wheeler. Makes it easy sometimes.

I have a loop on both ends of the cable
put the cable around the sapling and through the loop, like a choker

So, I welded a big nut onto each of my stakes this morning, and feel better about my set up. I put out six dog proof traps and three live traps. We'll see how it goes tonight.
