Alright boys. Won’t score the highest but I’m proud of it. That said… I’m gonna go ahead and start the conversation for next year.

I’ve done the ODT every year since we started and I’ve loved it. Have made some really good friends through it and hunted harder than I would have otherwise. All that to say… I think we need to consider some of the bonus points again. It adds a bit of chance to a thing we’re doing for fun and it shouldn’t be that serious anyway. Extra points for extra beards and extra points for public. Count total points from all your birds. That’s how we used to do it and I think it was a little more fun that way. Would even be down to get teams back together. Random pairings is fine.

Adamjen15 Adamjen15 is KILLING being a leader in this and I’m not frustrated at all. I’m here for the fun. I’m just opening the door for some conversation about some ways we used to run it and it was a lot of fun scoring that way.

This is my first time doing the ODT turkey challenge and I would imagine in the event of a double beard being submitted, the overall score would include the added length of both beards, i.e. an 8" beard and a 4" beard with 1" spurs would give you a score of 13... unless there is a line in the rules about it that I missed. That makes sense to me at least.

Nevertheless what an awesome bird for public land Fly Fishing Guy Fly Fishing Guy

I got 8 3/4” beard and 1” spurs which would be 9 3/4” overall. But like I said earlier when we talked, next year we will for sure go back to the way it was. I like having extra points for different things.

Congratulations on a fine bird.
I get it that competing with other public land hunters is a challenge of its own, but I’ve never noticed a considerable difference in the mannerisms of a turkey on public land vs a turkey on private land. I hunt a couple tracts of private land that borders public land and the birds don’t act any different once they cross the boundary line. One is no harder to kill than the other.
