I decided it was time to clean my 22/45. I have done it before with more success at times than others but it has always ended well, not today. I have tried and tried but had no success. I have watched YouTube and even downloaded the owner's manual.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

I got rid of mine but the biggest problem I had with reassembling, was the rod into it's cradle...I found using a small screw driver and guiding it in worked..And yes it is a tight fit...

I love shooting it but cleaning it makes me want to throw it off the nearest cliff. This should not be that difficult or that hit and miss. Normally if I can't do basic disassembly/reassembly for cleaning I will not have it. I am getting close on my 22/45. I believe they have made improvements on the Mark IV but do not have it threaded.

At what point are you getting stuck ? It can be a pain, but having a clear mental picture of what needs to go where, and holding the gun so the hammer and hammer strut are positioned appropriately, usually gets it back together.

Well, I get to the point where I re assemble the dowel back up through the bolt just fine. When I pull the release down, rather than just falling in place the dowel is pulled out of place just enough that the release will not fall into the grip. Forgive me for not knowing all the correct part names.

Your right what a PITA to reassemble. Sometimes it goes good, other times I just have to walk a way for a couple minutes.
I have found if you hold your tongue just right, raise your left leg, spin around three times and bark like a dog, it seems to help a little. Guiding the rod back into the cradle normally helps too.
Good luck

I LITERALLY threw mine in the trash.

Came back a few days later and took it to my FIL and he put it back together.

I have not taken it apart since.

I will shoot it until it breaks and then buy a new one

It sounds like a bur on what you are calling the release. It is camming as it goes into place instead of going straight in and pulling down on the bolt pin.

A black sharpie and a few trial fits should show you where the problem is.
