For many years .243 was a low cost blaster for practice. Current circumstances and the proliferation of 6.5 panty waist has basically wiped out production capacity for .243 - So I had to start reloading for all 3 of my .243 rifles.

Hit pay dirt yesterday with my Model 7
100gr Interlock
39.5 grains IMR-4350(max load)
Once fired Doo Doo Federal Brass (don’t laugh - accumulated over years of range time with several rifles)
CCI #34 primer(all I have)

BUG HOLES at 100yds - going to load out 40 rounds of this load for the 7

I have a CVA Apex with a 25in barrel -

****suggestions for screamer load? Long range?

Any luck with TTSX in .243?

Thanks!

I have not found a particularly outstanding load for the 243, but everything shoots good enough to use for hunting. I load for my Son Inlaw’s gun as well as mine—Ruger American, Ruger Mark II, and a Remington Model Seven. All loads tried have been capable of under 1.5 moa.

I know the guns and I could do better, but the 243 has not been a target gun for me, my barrels are skinny and heat up too fast for long strings of fire.

The powders that work for me have been whatever I can find in the recommended burn rate.

I like the 75 to 100 grain bullet size, the 55 - 70 grain bullets use a lot of powder.

So after researching the internets I have found lots of folks loading IMR-4350 up to 42 grains in the .243/100gr bullets. Hmmmm - back to the bench.

That checks out with the Hodgdon site:

I use AA4350, and the only negative aspect of it has been that it heats my barrel up after just a few shots. It is not a plinking powder when used at max loads.

Anyone loading .243 with StaBall 6.5? I am going to use it for 7mm-08, Hodgdon site showed good velocity in .243 loads. Would be nice to load both with this powder. It is cheaper than IMR-4350.
