Ok, it seems that 300 black out has been growing in popularity over the past few years and is really coming on strong in the AR market. I've watched a few videos on youtube about the 300 blkout and some comparisson vids 223/556 vs 300 blkout. I own several Ar platforms but all chambered in 223/556. I would like a Ar in 300 blkout to have more ammo options in a SHTF situation. I dont think I would suppress it and I know thats where they excel, but again I have no plans on going the supress route anytime soon. So other than that why is it becoming so popular? It cost more to shhot, the round doesnt travel as far as 223/556 accurately. So someone schhol me please.

.30/30 and 7.62x39 ballistics in an AR platform that uses standard mags and is suppressor friendly.

That and it's the current cool and en vogue thing. I think it will continue to gain in popularity, more so than many of the other AR specific calibers that have cropped up like the 6.8 and 6.5.

Have you ever researched subsonic 5.56? They are practically useless and give little advantage over a subsonic 22lr. The strong point of a 300BK is it's use as a good subsonic round that works in a standard AR15 platform. I also like it in a bolt action rifle. It's incredibly quiet with a can. More so than an AR because there is no sound from the action. It gives the same ballistic performance as a 308 Win subsonic in a round that was designed for just that purpose. The 300BK was primarily designed as a subsonic round. With that said, the reality is that it is only about the equivalent of a 45ACP round with slightly better ballistic coefficient.

So, a subsonic 5.56 is close to the equivalent of a subsonic 22lr and the 300BK is close to the equivalent of a typical 45 ACP.

I'm sure it performs really well, but I can't even consider a tactical / SHF weapon system unless I can stock up 1,000 rounds of ammo for under $350.
I'm not rich, and only having 100 rounds of ammo doesn't meet my prep requirements.

If your not going to suppress it or hunt. Then I would just stick to 5.56 and save some money and move up to Ar10.
Also in SHTF scenario, I realy dont see 300 being laying in the streets and in peoples homes like 223.
