300 BLK reloading adventure

So, continuing to experiment with the 300 BLK.

Why? boredom, an excess of HS-6 powder on hand, and a need for some light quiet loads for a friend’s suppressor.

I decided to load 8.5 grains of HS-6, and a 150 Grain, 30-30 Berry Bullet. I am using a Federal Rifle Primer.

Added in edit:

With 8.5 HS-6, the measured speed was 1365fps. Accuracy was good, but the trajectory change is very apparent, even at 50 yards. This load is at least 5 inches lower at 50 yards than my 1839FPS load.
Next: tried 7 grains of Trail Boss, the Berry 30-30 150 grain bullet, and a Remington Standard Pistol Primer. It worked great. Velocity averages 990fps. Sierra had this powder listed at 7.3 grains, but that would be more than will fit in some of my brass. 7.0 left just enough to start the bullet onto the case.

The trajectory difference from 990fps to 1365fps was about 2.5 inches at 50yrds.
The trajectory difference from 1365fps to 1839fps was about 5.0 inches at 50yrds.
So, total drop was 7.5 from super sonic to subsonic at 50 yards with the Berry Bullet.

My new favorite load is 5.0 grains of Red Dot, Remington Pistol Primer, and the Berry 30-30 bullet. It burns clean—primer pockets are left with almost no carbon to clean before reloading. Speed is 995fps on a 51 degree day.

I have been loading for the absolute lowest noise level and least expensive load for the Ruger American—Rodent control. Hence, the fast powder.

I have used 110/296 in the 357 and was very satisfied.
