.308 Semi Auto Rifle Options

FALs are great and have been around forever, the original black rifle, and are battle proven but are too heavy for some. M1As, depending on what you're wanting to do with it would be a viable option as well. Through if your looking for some precision work, you may want to think about getting an M1A "accurized". I've got an LMT MWS.308 on order, should be in any day now and I've heard very good things about it. LMT has a pretty good track record an is in use by the US as well as foreign militaries and special operations groups. I'll let you know after I run it but I would lean more towards these types of rifles, I've heard most AR-10s are unreliable.

CDNN sports has FNAR's for $999.00 thats the best deal out there for what your looking for. Also the FN SCAR 17. I have a DSA SA58 with a 16 inch barrel,. Its a supurb weapon. But weight is a issue to me. I have 2 DPMS LR308s they are okay compared to the FAL. Again weight is a factor. The FN AR is hands down the best alaround bang for the buck. It has a 16 inch barrel and its light. But if money is not the issue the SCAR 17 is my choice. I like the SOCOM, but compared to the SCAR, FNAR and FAL the recoil is pretty violent for a all around battle rifle. The FNAR,SCAR, and FAL are pretty soft shooting rifles, witch helps with follow on shots.

I may be the only one of this opion but the saiga 308 is not at all a bad choice. They are as accuarate as a base model M1 out of the box. The only drawbacks are the iron sights are not as good as the M1A and the M1A has more potential if you are willing to put the money into it, the saiga comes in the as good as it gets form. But if you were worried about the investment into an M1A I cannot imagine you are looking to drop 2K into it to make it top notch. The saiga is half the price and just as good under 300 yards.

Ey like that. nice chop chop boom boom. no scope or bi-pod for me. give me ghost rear and post front and i buy now. mmm... urban car hunter. :brushteeth::brushteeth::brushteeth:

FNAR! Mine seems to love everything that I have fed it ... it has a huge appetite though ... you can blow through a 20 round magazine in nothing flat!

Oh and it is as accurate as they advertise (Less than 1 MOA), yet rugged enough to take-to-the-woods ... Just don't try to use a bipod as it seems to ruin its natural harmonics(?)

No bipod? Huh?

Here are some things that people forgot to mention in guiding you to the right rifle.

Roller block receivers destroy and mangle brass the worst. However you can still get three to four reloads out of them if you can find the brass that was thrown a mile away. You may also want to Look at the H&K 770 platform. Most of them come with quick release snipe mounts and flip up rears in case your scope fogs.
Cetme, G-3 clones, G-3 are roller block rifles. This includes the PTR guns as well

DSA Fal rifles are gas piston driven guns and run like champs. They are mission specific and can be bought that way from the company. They are less harsh on brass giving you about 5-7 reloads on brass. Also they come with a great warranty from the manufacture.

Springfield has been covered well by everyone here. Weight will be heavier with some guns than others making operations different for some operators. Springfield comes with competition adjustable peep sights on some models. Great sights, easy to use, and best of all they can be swapped out with little effort.

After reading this thread I now want an FN AR however. Looks like a great gun but I cannot comment on the functionality of the rifle.

If budget is no option for your battle rifle, Check out the Knight armament line of .308 rifles. They are battle proven, reliable, machines meant to last in the fight.

My 16" DPMS is real gentle on brass. I have a Tubbs Carrier Weight System in it which slows the impulse down enough to where I have no scratches on the brass nor marks on the rim. Very nice. If you get the 18.5" barrel, you can even get the midlength gas system which will help even more.
