.308 Semi Auto Rifle Options

Well, if you're going to spend a fortune on ammo, which you will have to do if you want your "battle rifle" to shoot .308, then you might as well spend a second fortune and buy a nice M1A Scout or Socom. The only reason I don't have one is because I am unwilling to spend the money required to adequately stock ammo. Now, if there was a rifle with that same action that shot 7.62x39 and wasn't a mini 30, I'd be all over that.

.308s are expensive to feed, but I don't mind too much. I just shoot less with each outing, which is fine when 12 ounce Coke cans are easy to bust at 200 yards, and not too difficult at 300. Mind you, that's with iron sights. Keep your AKs and ARs. Make mine an M1A, please.

FWIW, I've been using Hornaday 110 grain TAP for defense and training, and Brown Bear for plinking. I ordered a bunch for like $6.95 a box, which ain't too bad for .308.

Had a 308 Saiga I converted. Smooth trigger and reliable as any. Just did a DPMS build. Lightweight 18" barrel with a Gatorgrip rail. More options on the DPMS platform for mags and triggers. Still heavier than the 17s but about $900less expensive.
Went with a CTR and Slash 308 buffer for recoil control.

After reading this thread I now want an FN AR however. Looks like a great gun but I cannot comment on the functionality of the rifle.

From what I have read its a updated Browning Bar. Witch is a proven platform. Here is a sniper Browning Bar rifle version .30-06. Below that is the Match FNAR version .308.

good info guys! I am looking towards some more research into the FNAR... the thing the put me off to them originally was the pistol grip ... it does not look good (dumb reason, i know)... the one in the above pic looks bad ass though. If it is truly a sub 1" gun, I may look more closely into it, U would like to get a hands on. Maybe Adventure outdoors has one I can fondle.
