375 or 416

Looking to buy a Stainless Steel rifle in 375 H & H or 416.
Going to Africa?

I have a buddy that's a ranger there. Rassie is a good dude. He will take care of ya. Tell him the gunsmith sent ya.

If it's Alaska there is nothing there you can't take with a 375 H&H with a 270 grain bullet. If your in the thick Alaskan brush country do you want the extra weight and recoil of the a 416 (any of the 8 different - 416's) not to mention the ammo cost difference.
The .416 Caliber Cartridge Family
(.416 Rigby, .416 Wby. Mag., .416 Rimmed, .416 Taylor, .416 Dakota, .416 Rem. Mag., .416 Ruger, .416 Hoffman)

If I had the cash I'd go with the 400 Holland and Holland, It's loaded with a .411 bullet. Essentially the mother of all 41 magnums.

Take a look at the 375 Remington Ultra Mag. If you hand load you can get the same trajectory as a 180 grain 308 using a 300 grain bullet. That will help a lot if you end up with a longer range shot opportunity.

BTW, that load has more energy than a 458 Win Mag.
