Was able to get in tight on a hard gobbling tom. Only heard a couple birds on kid lease opening morning. Fortunately for me I happened to be closest to the most vocal bird. Got setup inside a hundred yards. Watched him fly down. Came straight in, hung up at about 40 yards on something I couldn't see. After third time hanging up I decided to make a risky move. Crawled about 10-12 yards to a better vantage point. Of course he then decides to bypass the hangup and gets inside the comfort zone. He was gobbling almost continously stopping long enough to strut and drum as loud as I can recall. At 25 yards I was able to finish the drill. This really just never gets old. He had some beard rot and lost about half his beard. Longest spur went 1 1/8. Other spur appeared to be broken and looked to be regrowing as a new point was emerging from the broken spur. Haven't experienced that previously. Very good bird. As vocal and hot as I've had on me in a long time. Sunday morning was slow and quiet. Was able to call in a hen to about 12 feet. Didn't hear a gobble
I was fortunate enough to get drawn for Paulding Forest first quota, so that's where I'll be this weekend.
