.40 hard cast/HP38

In your XD I'd likely load hard cast with a start to midrange load listed for the same weight jacketed. I'd load a mag full and see how they shoot at my backyard range, if I had one. (I sure wish I had a backyard range) You may want to check out this site too. You're likely have to sign up to use the search feature there, but I bet you'll find what you're looking for.

I'd simply use the starting load for a jacketed bullet of the same weight. If accuracy or function is lacking at that reduced charge, work up slowly.

thanks for all the replies. forgot I posted this thread so I put another one on GON last night.
What are these xtp bullets? Plenty of data for them, nothing for fmj!!

Here's what handloads.com had:

180gr XTP 5.0 gr HP38 947 fps 1.125" WSP Hodgdon
Suggested starting load: 4.5 gr

Pressure: 32,900 PSI
