.40, why/why not?

I use a sig 716 pistol for home defense, but my 40 is a great backup/carry gun. The way I see it is if you get shot from 10-20 yards, does it really matter if it's a 9, 40, or 45? Never really done the research on ballistics.

thats ****in rowdy lol

nice

Have several 40's even a Carbine, load em, love em, LEO's all over the country wouldn't have ever carried them ever, if they hadn't had enough stopping power. Now they are switching back to 9's for higher capacity, since a lot of em can't hit a mule at 35 yards.
i think alot are switching back because the stopping power of the .40 is simply not superior to that of a 9mm. they both seem to do the same job both equally well

I have a couple but only because they are police trade-ins I got cheap. They are certified rebuilt by Glock so there's no questions if I ever have to use them in self-defense.

Chucklenut has it right though... you lose capacity for the 'privilege' of worse follow-up shots due to the recoil and without any improvement in 'stopping power' over 9mm.

Sure, if you practice a lot with it you can get past the recoil (which is definitely closer to a punch than a push), but you are still down on capacity compared to 9mm, and for no more effective a round.

That being said, it's probably some of the most common ammo in the US right now, so having something around that shoots it isn't a bad idea, simply as a prep.
