Me and my brother recently bought guide guns.Wanting to pour or cast our own bullets.Any suggestions to which one you woul recommend. These will be used for hunting.

i shoot a marlin guide gun with 18 1/2 " barrel. 405 grain cast bullets. i hunt in heavy brush and trees on my property and moves limbs with ease. heavy enough to get to the deer, but light enough to put a pretty good charge without very heavy recoil. for me it works great.

Heres some with lead bullets i use in my 4570s.

405g Lee Flat Point/hollow base - 63g Goex fff, Fed 215 LRM primer

405g Lee Flat Point/hollow base - 27.2g Accurate XMP 5744, Fed 215 primer, 1415 fps

220g Round Nose lead (seated w/nose flush with mouth of case) - 7g Unique

My best luck and accuracy from cast bullets comes from Beartoothbullets.com, I use their 425gr Piledriver Jr sized .460 in my 1895 Marlin and often get sub 1"groups but at the price of heavy recoil.
I also want to cast my own but as yet have been unable to find a wfn mold that will throw a .460 bullet.
I have a Lee mold that is similar but it cast .457 and won't shoot worth a hoot!
Trust me Marlins like .460, at least the newer ones with the ballard cut rifling. Glenn

I have a Marlin 1895, Ruger #3, and a Browning 1885 all in 45/70.

I have been shooting 45/70 since the early 1970s and like to use the 300 grain bullets.

I like the 292 or 300 grain lead bullets with 2400 powder. I use the 1886 Winchester load in an old Lyman book.
