Hiya fellas I just broke into this caliber with an addition of my 1st 1911.
Though I've been reloading for quite some time, the is a new caliber for me.

I've noticed that most of my brass has large pistol primers, but I have some brass (Blazer mostly) that appears to have small pistol primers/pockets.

I'm just wondering if this is typical? I'll need to sort them by pocket size, this isn't something I've run into before.

Anyone know why they might have done this.

Thanks,
Bill

I don't why they do it but, yes, it's typical. They are a PIA because if you dont sort them, you'll end up trying to jam large primers into small pockets, which is frustrating and slows you down.

Yup, got to sort by primer size! I keep all of my brass large pistol, and toss the small, but .45 is what I load the most. If I did more 9mm, I'd probably toss the large primed brass so that everything was the same, but there is a lot more large primed than small in my cache.

Oh, and watch out for those pesky .45GAP cases. They're like running into .380 when loading 9mm!

Yep I've run into a .45 gap case already, knew it wasn't right by the way it felt, just like a .380 case.

I load several pistol calibers, so it sucks that I have to sort by primer size after sorting by caliber, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the scoop

I've always sorted by primer size and hung onto the small primer brass just in case. I remember a few years ago primers were hard to find and while I was almost out of large primers I had plenty of small. If anyone doesn't want their small primer 45 brass just let me know.
