I shot a .45 GAP (G38) yesterday and really liked it. Of all the Glocks I have ever shot, it was one of the very best. Accurate, easily manageable, almost identical power as .45acp in a G19 sized handgun. I wonder why the .45 GAP never caught on in the mainstream civilian market...? Could it be the name? Should they have named it the 11mm to make it not so obvious as a competitor to the legendary .45acp? Marketing has a lot to do with success in a caliber, and I believe that if the .45 GAP had been marketed in a more favorable way, it could have been a very popular civilian round. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the G38. I don't know if I will ever own one, but when they do pop up it seems they are usually very inexpensive. I realize ammunition is harder to obtain than most rounds, and perhaps a bit more costly, so reloading may be the way to go there...Still, my time spent with the GAP was an eye opener for me. This is a good round and from my limited time spent shooting it, I believe it is one of the best Glocks I've ever shot. Too bad it has been almost completely written off by the masses.

I bought a Glock 37 in 45 GAP when they first came out and I loved it!!!

But the ammo was too hard to find and too expensive.
But that was 15-16 years ago.
So I sold or traded the 37.

I feel the same way. It wasn’t marketed correctly and it failed to catch on.

Now you see all kinda of odd rounds popping up in rifles.

Maybe the 45 GAP will make a come back and I will get to buy another 37 again.
For a mark up I am sure.
Haha

Lots of LE agencies carried .45 GAP for years, including GSP. From what I understand most of the officers who have carried it really liked it, and in real world street results (though pretty hard to obtain accurately), officers admired its performance... All I know is I liked it. It was a very good performer on paper and water bottles. Lol

45 short?

Of all the used glock handguns that come in, the 45 gap is always the cheapest ($250 for a minty one). BUUUUT, ammo is hard to find and by the time you calculate a new barrel/mag combo you might as well actually buy the glock 9mm/40mm/45mm that you really will end up shooting.

because .45 gap was gay lol

nuff said. **** hybrid rounds for real though
Why? Every round was a hybrid at some point in time. .45 GAP has identical ballistics to acp, with identical diameter and bullet weight, but in a smaller handgun. It fills a niche for those who do not care for the bigger framed guns. Don't knock it if you haven't shot one. I never gave it a second thought until I shot one.

I'm not advocating for everyone to jump on the GAP bandwagon. I'm only saying it is a good round that could have been more mainstream if it had been marketed better. I see it as one of those rounds that will eventually fade into the sunset, and I think it's a shame.

I've had several Glocks in. 45 GAP, still have a 37 & 38...I like the guns and the cartridge very much...What a lot of people who poo-poo the round fail to realize is that the shorter GAP equals OR EXCEEDS the velocity and energy of the larger standard-pressure .45 ACP with the same-weight projectiles by virtue of running at SAAMI-Spec .45 ACP Plus-P pressures...Not too shabby, methinks...
