45 vs 10mm SHOOT OUT FOR BEAR DEFENSE

some friends of mine did salmon fishing in Alaska like 20 years ago. the cannery they dealt with was on Kodiak island. crew members were required to carry on the island cause of the bears. my buddy showed up with a beretta 92. he got laughed at.

Mag capacity is not a factor. A bear can close so quickly that you will be lucky to get off two aimed shots. Now you may be able to keep shooting while it is on top of you.

Same response I give to the 9mm when they make fun of my K frame .357. If you are in a personal defense situation, and 6 rounds of .357 don't resolve it, you are are pretty well screwed anyway. If we apply the 21 foot rule, one round of real .357 is a lot more likely to end the threat than 3 or 4 rounds of 9mm. After 6 shots of anything, you are going to be hand to hand if you haven't taken care of business.
