6.5 creedmore rifle questions

I don't see any use for a 6.5 Creedmoor as a normal-distance hunting or casual target shooting round.
If you aren't going to take it out to 800, 1000, or 1200 yards, you might as well use a 7mm-08, a .25-06, a .260 Rem, or a .270 Win.
(That's assuming you want to fire bullets that are slimmer and lighter than the .308, and with less recoil than a .308 or .30-06).

If you want to take that 6.5 mm round out to 1000 yards, you'll want to spend a lot more than you've budgeted for the gun, and then you should spend even more on the scope.

260 and 6.5CM as it would pertain to hunting is the same round for all intents and purposes. 6.5 CM in a 129 grain would also be a better factory hunting round than 7mm-08 as your BC and sectional density is higher with the same or sightly increased muzzle velocity. It's a superior hunting round to the .308 for those same reasons as well. Yeah, its going to be splitting hairs at short to mid ranges, but you will benefit from the increased expansion and penetration at longer ranges due to the better sectional density.

As for 25-06 and .270, you are correct, not in the same ball park. But those two I consider the two greatest North American deer calibers.

Look on u-toob. Ruger Predators doing crazy long range stuff with the 6.5...
Ordering me one from Buds. I plan to scope it with some great glass, and put a free floating adjustable stock on it. I'm on a learning curve to shoot paper at long distance for fun. This seems like a good way to break into 'slowly', without dropping 3-4K on a rifle, stock, and premium glass all at once. Little investments work better for my pocket book, and this rifle gets some great reviews.

Top rifle is a Model 10 FCP-5R (.308), bottom is a Model 12 LRP (6.5)

I wouldn’t want to hunt with either Gun where any stalking or walking long distance is required. Both are sub .5MOA rifles when the shooter does their part. Both are well under $1k for just the rifle.

That’s my 14 year olds .308, and wife’s 6.5 Creedmoor. They are right at the threshold of weight for PRS, but that Model 12 LRP is a beast. And yes, at long range even without a brake, you can watch vapor trail with that rifle.

Man that's awesome. That's what I'm 'shooting' for. I just bought a .308 Rem 700 set up with a free floating adj stock from a guy here too. Have some good glass on it to get me started with this learning adventure.

I've heard so much about 6.5CM, I couldn't pass on that deal from Buds on the Ruger Predator. I just have to do all this over time,.. hard to drop the bucks all at once.

.264/6.5, comes in .260, 264win mag, 26 Nosler, 6.5 Creedmoor, and in the last (2) years or so it is also chamber in WEATHERBY ACCURAMARK 6.5X300 WBY MAG, great caliber, that's 5 guns that use the same dia. bullet used to have one of the first runs of Remington 700, in 264 mag, it was a sweet mean straight shooting machine. Sold to a friend who put a much higher price than we would on it, and he still has it today uses it on everything he hunts in big game in "JAWJA". When Remington re-introduced the 264, about 8-10 years ago we got another one and it is an awesome shooter, heavy barrel, but it is a delight to shoot...

We like the availability to use the same same diameter bullets in different guns, just a qwerty way of reloading the same bullet in many guns...

everybody likes something just a little different in their gun availibilty...

The Ruger is the better of the three, except the stock. The Savage has a better stock. For an occasional use hunting rifle, the Savage would be a better choice. For all around use and running it hard, the Ruger will hold up better. I'd go the Ruger and upgrade the stock with a $100 Boyd's laminate if I found myself using it a lot.

Any cartridge with ~50gr powder capacity and a 120gr+ bullet will kill a deer as well or better than any of the common hunting rounds.

Thanks for all the comments. I just wanted something different in a different caliber that I have never owned. I have owned in the past 30-06, 308, 30-30 and 300 win mag, 7 mag, 7mm-08, 45-70. Just wanted something else, may even look into a 243 just for the low recoil to play around with.

.243 will give you more available components as well as boxed ammo on shelves. Been around for years. Great versitile round. look into the AR platforms as well for that caliber.
