shot one deer with a 7mm 08,lost it, got another 308 the next week.

So it had nothing to do with your marksmanship? This is why you trash the 7-08. You made a crappy shot at a deer and blame the round. Tell us how the bullet failed that you never recovered.

My local gunsmith wants to do me some loads up using a 120 gr nosler ballistic tip but for some reason after having problems with the SST I'm nervous bout using any ballistic tip bullet
7mm08 is a great round for deer but shot placement is key with and caliber
It has a thicker jacket. I rarely recover them. They expand, and punch through. The old corelockt works well also.
Shot placement is key with any round. You will never find a deer that has been nicked with a magnum round.
Yep shot placement was in the left shoulder at 35 yds,fusion 120,no exit wound,and no blood trail.Same shot,same location, on a 9 pointer earlier with a 150 grain core lok out of a 30/30 DRT.I will stick with my 308's from now on.The last 6 deer have been 1 shot kills.40 to 127 yards with a 150 grain Sierra Pro Hunter.
Sounds like a clean miss to me.
Dang that's strange. I done the same thing at 52 yards and deer never moved. Course I was using corelokts too
