That's what dogs are for.... Open the front door and watch them freak out.

Locked gates, magnetic anomaly detectors , passive IR motion detectors, choke points on approach to house, motion activated lights. These work far better than dogs.

What you want is layered security, not last ditch, point defense.

I always imagine a burglar coming in hot and heavy leaving me little time to pick up a gun. Sure is nice to know some will raddle the door for a while to allow me to get a beer, my phone and the gun of choice for the occasion.

I have cameras motion activated to alert me,dogs,and guns....I do what I can.
