98 Toyota Camry engine replacement.

I have a friend who's 98 Toyota Camry engine died. I don't think he's in a place to just junk the car, and get something new.

That being said, anyone have any ideas on getting a replacement engine? Pull one from a junkyard? Maybe buy a remanufactured long block from Auto Zone?

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I've looked into this a while. Probably a junk yard. Nothing will be cheap. Probably better off buying another complete car.

Not sure I would put a penny into a 98 Camry.. At the end of the day you will still have a 98 Camry....

Maybe find one that has low(er) miles thats been wrecked and the engine is salvageable. Paying someone to do the swap is going to be more than the car is worth IMHO.

I know that a engine and labor is going to be more than the car is worth... but it's not up to me. I think he should send whatever money he's going to pay for a new engine and labor, and put a down payment on a good used car.

What exactly happened to the engine?
Engine died could be on multiple ways , sometimes repairable
