Use the lip of the tank to depress the plunger. Keep an eye on the level in the tank and pull out to stop filling at least one full cycle from the top. If you try to fill it to the top or top it off you’ll make a mess.

It’s easy once you learn to leave room for that last burst.

Got an old style 2 gallon can from church yard sale for $2. Pulled the spring out of the out of the old one. Drilled a vent hole in it and plugged it with a stick match (with match head cut off ). Works fine too.

They'd prolly lock you up for that in California. Maybe in New York too.

In NJ it's against the law to pump your own gas.

New gas cans are terrible. I use only ine for mix gas and I ripped all the internals out of the spout and made it “old school”. For gas safety cans the metal are great

Every time I try gas comes out of the plunger area. I've been meaning to buy replacement old ones - but maybe there is another way to make this one work.
