A Tale of Two Crush Washers, or Two Crush Washers One Barrel, and other AR oddities

If you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t build your own.

If you don’t know what you‘re looking at, don’t buy someone’s home build. For the same amount of money, you can buy a factory gun that has an actual warranty.

I see multiple guns a week come across my bench for work, where the person didn’t know what they were doing when they built it, or they bought something without knowing what they were looking at. It almost always ends in tears.

Not just POS’s with POS parts, but improper assembly techniques, Loctite where there ain’t supposed to be Loctite, illegal SBR’s and AOW’s, and more.

Here’s a crapfest of a build someone traded for. .109” gas port in a 5.56 with an 11.5” midlength gassed barrel, by Faxon. Nice unnecessary stock of barrel shims, all gooped in place with red Loctite. Crush washer installed backwards. The hits keep on a-coming.

It’s possible that somewhere along the line, someone opened up the gas port.
