I've decided that I want to buy my first silencer and have found an AAC prodigy for a pretty good price. Honestly I don't know crap about silencers so I figured I'd ask you guys what your thoughts for of this can, good or bad? And would you recommend it or a different can?

I have a gemtech outback ii. I like it. I like aac as a company. They seem to be a great company to deal with. That is why I am waiting to receive two sdn6 suppressors.

I've heard good things about the prodigy. I've got limited experience, though - I haven't shot a lot of them, and I've got a Silencerco Sparrow that I'm happy with.

IMHO it's a better idea to get what you like the best, though, not what you get the best price on. Saving a few $$ on the cost of the suppressor itself is minor relative to the transfer process, how long you'll have it, and the customer service of the company for years to come.

Here's my take on 22 suppressors.

You want:
1. Good suppression
2. Materials easy to clean
3. Easy to disassemble after long shooting sessions
4. Size/weight

The AAC Prodigy: $412 on Silencershop
1. Good suppression right with the top performers
2. Aluminum is not the easiest to clean since it is not appropriate for ultrasonic or "the dip".
3. as a monocore it is not the easiest to clean
4. The Prodigy is very light and fairly short

The Spectre II on the other hand- $295 on Silencershop
1. Great suppression if not the best 22 canfor pistols (also rated for for 22wmr and 5.7x28)
2. Stainless steel baffles can be ultra sonic'd and dipped.
3. the CTA baffle stack protects the tube from lead, so baffles are easy to remove
4. its fairly light and short, but the prodigy is a little lighter. (if it matters to you, the Warlock($221) is the exact same as the spectre but made of aluminum.

I have a Prodigy. They did a core upgrade several years ago to make it quieter on the pistol or rifle end (I can't remember which) so depending on the age, I would check to see if the upgrade has been done. Or if it is a newer Prodigy, it would already have the upgrade. As far as taking it apart, many of them come with a little wrench if it was purchased with the package, but I have never had a problem unscrewing it by hand when using anti-seize.

I think they retail for around $450 - $500 new so if you could get a used one for $300 - $350 that is in good shape, I would probably grab it. Otherwise I would just get a new one and lean towards Silencerco

I will be using it on a pistol and a rifle (if that matters), a SR22 and a M&P 15/22 but plan on getting a bolt action gun as well since it would be even more quiet. It is $300 and how would I know if the upgrade has been done? Also how much is it to do if it hasn't been done? Can the AAC prodigy do other calibers such as the 5.7 round? I like that aspect for if I end up with a P90 or five seven in the future.
