Doesn't say it happened in the range. Unless they've changed their rules, you cannot rent a gun unless you bring one of your own. This way you aren't renting to suicide.

They have people lined up waiting to get into the store (max 100 at a time) so I'm guessing someone in line was showing off their new gun and shot someone... but that's total speculation.

Some 18 year old boys think they know it all...They think they know everything they need to know about guns because they play Grand-Theft Auto and Call of Duty.
They don't worry about safety, because they feel they're 10 foot tall, bulletproof and immortal...
Of course they feel the same way about cars,
which accounts for the outrageously high serious crash rate a young among young [male] drivers.
But, of course it's still a tragedy.
