Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely feel pretty dumb! Turned an afternoon/evening of shelf hanging in to a fun plumbing project and never got the shelves done.

It’s a pretty easy fix, so is the dry wall you will have to cut out to repair it, wish I was closer, I would come over and fix it, but it’s a haul for me..guess it just takes doing it, it’s easier than u think, shark bite or old style pvc pipe, just find a do it yourself video, and do it

Awesome, thanks guys. That will definitely save some time and money. Those shark bites aren't cheap! And neither is cutting out more sheetrock

Don’t cost any more to patch a big hole than it does a little hole in sheetrock

You answered your own question. cut Sheetrock on both sides of stud. Cut out the bad piece of pipe. Splice with 2 shark bite fittings. And you can buy Sheetrock in smaller sections like 24” x 24”.

Now, is it PVC or CPVC; or even the new "Pex Pipe"? 3/4" PVC is totally different size from a CPVC 3/4"
Each has a different way of dealing with!!
