Advice for a newb?

I think coolness factor is probably the main issue.

(Which is dopey, because I think an old 1919 would be about the coolest party trick ever!)

Looks like there are assloads of parts available. Shouldn't be a problem.

Ian from forgotten weapons spelled it out pretty well when he listed his old maxim,, basically it’s the ease of use aspect, you’re not gonna easily be able to lug or even store a huge heavy crew serviced weapon on a tripod with barrel jacket and cooling can or similar type for a simple day at the range not to mention parts availability starts to get scarce and rifle ammo starts adding up quickly when you’re running say 303 or 8mm or some Japanese round
 
I had assumed that something like a 1919 would be very expensive.

****. Might have to consider this.

Take something like that to pretty much any party, and you will drink for free!
