I put this in Reloading, because of the content, but it's an equally valuable warning to the unwary whenever you use AI for anything other than writing dirty haikus. (Don't judge me)

Executive Summary

One of the promises of AI is that it could give you authoritative intelligent feedback based on every data source available to it, to answer questions posed in 'natural language'.

I recently bought some bulk powder which I know is manufactured in Serbia and for which I have manufacturer load data for 9mm Parabellum - a 124gr projectile over 5gr of powder. I have no doubt that I'll be able to safely work up loads for all the pistol calibers and projectiles I want to run. So, I know the ballpark answer, so let's see what Brave browser's AI throws back (The engine is Llama 3.1).

So, first thing, if you're an idiot, the only thing that will save you from disaster is that you can't fit 70 grains of powder in a 9mm case, even if you compress it.

So, I ask for some changes.

Better, but AI's not being very specific about the Reloading Manual. I think that even though AI says it's a reliable source, I'd like to know whose reloading manual.

OK. It got the data from somewhere that it can't link me to. Should be able to give me the information of which manual, right?

OK, so now, it admits it can't provide a citation. Why?

Don't trust AI. At least, don't trust it without a certain amount of skepticism. (without 70 grains of salt?)

Just AI testing the waters for a plan to rid the earth of humanity.

everybody knows you can put 70 grains of gunpowder down the muzzle of your .36 / 9mm handgun after you've chambered an empty primed case,
then you ram your bullet at least halfway down the barrel, from the muzzle.

You get much improved stopping power for this one shot--- but of course you can only fire one of these per deadly encounter.

(Everything in the post above is guaranteed to be at least 3% accurate and no greater than 90% odds of killing / disfiguring you if you actually try it in real life.)

ai is great! yes it is! but just like the internet, radio and television, you will find people who knows what they're talking about and people who dont. there is good material and bad. people has written book full of misinformation and they get published. Ai is barely "starting" now and thats makes it even more exciting

AI: Anti-Intelligence.
I've attempted to use it, gave it very specific information on some firewalls I was configuring and asked it to provide at least a template of the configuration. After going back and forth for over an hour, I gave up and built it by hand. For some reason, it got really confused with routing which really should have been pretty easy.
AI ain't all that.

I'm starting to see broad adoption of the term "Augmented Intelligence" within the IT industry (just like global warming became 'climate change') to reflect the downgraded expectations of the consumers.

It is - of course - the perfect demonstration of "Garbage In, Garbage Out" except that the user has no really good idea of what the source of the "garbage in" was.

That dialog's citation of Reddit is, I guess, a 'tell'.

I bet some dumb **** will fill the case enough to get the bullet seated and go shoot his first rounds using this data and kaboom his hand falls off and pistol blows to smitherines....
