I think the problem is that there are so many different qualities of AK's. Not sure that was English, but someone that doesn't know a quality AK usually has this kind of reaction if the AK isn't priced at $450.

Ak-47 prices goin up?

AK prices have been coming down, just not as fast as ARs because there is a much smaller market for AKs. Still though WASRs are overpriced. They are $400 guns.

actually they arent going up on here. the mouth breathers who list their wares too high dont sell them and they sit and get relisted, so it looks like every ak is priced high when really its just the same ones

I've got a friend who owns a gun shop and does a LOT of gunsmith work. He recently built a Romy AK47 for me, which between the kit/receiver, purchased a couple of years ago, and his labor to finish the build - cost about $515. Other than the fresh bluing on the barrel, and the new receiver, it looks a lot like a battlefield pickup (i.e. by no means "new").
This same gunsmith builds high-end AK47 rifles as sort of a niche, primarily from Saiga's, Arsenal (Bulgarian), and sometimes Norinco's. He typically installs an improved trigger group, replaces any worn interior parts, AR-style furniture, nice sights and/or optics, and either puts a really cool Duracoat finish on it, or blues and polishes until it shines with the depth of a European sports car. Those high end AKs sell for $800-2000+ depending upon what he's got in them, and what he's done to them. They are gorgeous rifles. When you pick up one of these custom rifles, it doesn't feel anything like my $515 kit-built Romy AK.
The days of the $275 AK47 are gone forever, so the new normal may be the basic AK47 in the $400-550, range.
