Hey lads,

There is a specialty hunt coming up in August for feral hogs at the Altamaha WMA and I was wondering if any of you guys have hunted that area for hogs before? I've hunted deer by stalking and have seen signs of hogs in the Redlands WMA before but never actually seen one. Is it true Altamaha is ate up with hogs?

Any pointers or suggested tracts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I hunt the area all the time. We actually hunt all of the WMA's on or along the Altamaha from Jesup to the coast. Just be prepared to walk and definitely bring a Therma Cell. A 2 wheeled buggy for removing the game is recommended as well. You may be a long ways from the Truck or boat when the hogs are located. By boat is the most fun in my opinion. You will not have a hard time finding hogs. You will need some discipline to not shoot more than you can haul out though.

Hogs are very nomadic-they can be here one day and gone the next.
Cover some ground-find fresh rootings or a well used trail. Find nearby thick cover and hogs won't be far away. Cane thickets and blowdowns are where we encountered them most often.
