A little specificity is needed here. Aluminum is a pesky material to play with, even under the best of conditions.
Do you know which alloy it is? A lot of them are practically un-weldable, especially the alloys used in AR-15's, et. al.

Couple. One is 7075. The other is a cast aluminum piece

7075 used to be classed as un weldable as is 2024.. there are some unique methods to have it done..I'd suggest you talk with the best micro tig / laser welder I know.. Jim French with JMF welding over in Duluth. He has an FFL and does custom welding on firearms as well as industrial items.
