I totally get it, he had religious objections. I just think it's funny that someone that once wrote "Don't want to fight" and claims Conscientious Objector status ends up being one of the baddest asses on the battlefield.

Yep, my wife and I visited his home and gravesite years ago. It's a good destination, for the history and the great country. You can see the yellow chairs from his home, way up on the mountain. Lots of history, a great American story.

To say the least. Men of his caliber, fortitude and principle are SORELY lacking today. I dare say, they are almost non-existent. But then again, it's a whole new country than the one he lived in.... unfortunately.
