Am I old or is this expensive?

I don't know what a fair price is but I wouldn't go to an indoor open-to-the-public range anymore if you paid me. Finding a good outdoor gun club might be worth it, even if there was some driving to get there.

I live in a gun-friendly, semi-rural county, but we've gradually watched most of our old favorite spots dry up, largely due to the influx of "progress/developnent", and the snowflake suburbanites that call the cops if they hear gunfire within a mile of them ( we hear LOTS of gunfire, close by, and off in the distance. It sounds like......'MURICA!!).
But, for the moment anyway, I still have a couple favorite Blast-and-Dash spots nearby where i can safely pop off a couple quick mags or cylinders. I dont spend the afternoon there, it's usually when I just want to test for proper function of a newly acquired but used toy.
I'll typically preload my mags (good time saver, as mentioned above), then toss a pistol, ear muffs, small cardboard target, etc. in a small backpack, then hike or bike ride to the spot, then blast away real quick, clean up, and beat feet outa there. I've actually had county cops roll up on me a couple times, but they'd just check that everything looked safe ( using a backdrop, no kids drinking and being stupid, etc), and leave me be. Can't beat that!!

The DNR is planning on changing fees for using their ranges. They're sending out surveys right now to find out who will pay $100 to $140 a year or $10 to $30 a day to shoot. Right now it's covered under your hunting or fishing license.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA-DNR) provides grants for shooting range development through the Wildlife Restoration Program. These grants are funded by federal excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment. Bill Clinton started to raid this multi money fund when he was president and he was stopped somehow. I can't remember all the particulars on it but I do know that every bullet and every firearm you buy has built in federal taxes on it to support gun ranges, yet they want to sneak another friggin' in on us.
