Am I the only one?

Lol...I thought I was the only freak that hates these things!
My SS Springfield Loaded was immediately molested upon ownership with....you guessed it: smooth grip safety and an arched msh. The hump dug into my hand too while shooting and the whole grip frame just felt un-1911 like with the silly flat msh.

Whew... glad I'm not alone! lol I was starting to think I was a freak too!:D

A lot of very good shooters use a VERY high grip, myself included. I actually rest my right thumb on top of the slide safety while shooting. This helps to control recoil for fast follow up shots. With that grip it can be hard to keep the grip safety compressed without the hump. That's why it's there. If you don't use that grip just change out the safety or try that grip technique. You might like it.

Just to echo what Bear said, it's there for very high cut grip safeties. Ed Brown grip safeties and custom jobs can give a very high grip, which coupled with any error in the grip or during extended firing would cause the grip safety to engage. The bump makes it easier for the hand to pivot the grip safety in and allow firing.
