Been wanting to play electric guitar for years, think I'm going to try to learn this year. After talking to a few people and looking on the internet and from what I'm hearing, the Epiphone Les Paul would be the overall best to start out with. Anybody here play electric guitar? What do you play, what types of pedals, amp, etc do you use?

While it's not a Gibson, the Epiphone Les Paul's are still pretty decent. It's what I have right now, and I am still trying to learn to play. I like the guitar for the most part, but I think I would rather have an Ovation acoustic/electric. I also wasn't very thrilled about the Made in Korea sticker on the back of the Epiphone, but I didn't have the budget for a "real" Les Paul.

Yeah figured I would try an epiphone and if it goes well I may want to upgrade later

There is an Epiphone SG because it's a Gibson design. It's what Angus Young has played for decades. Clapton used one with Cream a lot. I used to have 3 SGs from my birth year (1967). I used them in a blues band and a thrash metal band. They are versatile.
