Any one here ever built a safe door?

ive been thinking of building a safe door/vault room under my house . already have the pereft spot just need to design the door . any advice/ideas

There are companies out there who will do it for you, but charge a lot too. Try searching for “house hidden room” or something. Lots of ideas at

Properly designing a safe door is difficult-- the safe companies have 100+ years of design experience, born of failure. How many failures can you afford to learn from?

Buy a safe door and frame.

Hidden room or a true safe door? Very different. And the expertise, mounting and equipment needed are very different as well

How necessary is a safe door? If the walls are timber frame and drywall then it will take literally seconds to bust through the wall and bypass the safe door.

got a friend that has one, in the basement there is a reg door on one wall, open it and there is a full size safe door that opens into his "vault" lined with concrete, rebar on all sides and the top which is under his garage. doubles as a tornado safe room and armory.

Buddy has one with concrete walls all the way around (including ceiling) in his basement. He has 1/4 diamond plate steel door and frame that opens to the inside. It is his tornado room also, hence open to inside so as not to be trapped by debris in an emergency.

I looked but all I’ve seen is people using 64 in safes cutting the front and welding it to a frame. I’m looking for building a door and installing a locking mech
