Any one use header ceramic coating for a barrel?

If you do it, make sure you degrease it well. I use acetone. It'll take guilt off of Hillary. Mask off the barrel extension, cause that header paint is gonna be thick. Scuff the barrel with scotch brite to give the paint something to bite to. Plug both ends of the barrel to avoid anything getting in there as well. Spray and pray.

Only looking to do the barrel. Not anything else.
Cerakote's high heat product which is used on machine gun barrels and suppressors is air cured so you don't need and oven or anything special. It's best to sandblast but that wouldn't even be critical if you don't have a blaster, just scuff it up good with some scotch brite and degrease it.

Or send it to me and let me take care of it for you :thumb: if you want it OD green I could really hook you up because I have a little extra product.

I am telling you ceramic is going to heat up that barrel and not allow it to cool down. Your barrel will take for ever to cool off. It's really not a good idea. Just do a cerakote in the same color and let it ride.

Greg, you do realize that CERAkote is a CERAmic / epoxy based coating. It will act the same as the ceramic header paint, but will do it better, look better and be more durable.

Go ahead and try the header paint, It should work fine. If you don't like it, the paint can be easily removed by sandblasting as part of cerakote job.

Porcelain which is a type of ceramic was used on space shuttle all the way down to motorbikes and farm motors... most of these coatings with technology and from tactical to practical applications all derive from controlled expansion and heat soak in combustion process or high friction coefficient technology say in modern turbo bearings and so forth ..then there was application in all or most endurance challenges..

Ceracoat uses ( cera ) tiny ceramic particles to increase durablity agains scratches and the like. Pure ceramic coating in a thick coating is what is used on headers to withold heat to evacuate it from the engine compartment. I thought he was inquiring on a pure ceramic coating. There are four types of Ceramic coatings depending on the temp. rating.
