I’ve got one in 375 Winchester, with a pretty clear old school Weaver scope.

Exactly. But y'all should've been able to come to a reasonable agreementSold a very nice one in 30-30 to a friend years ago for $100 so that he could get into deer hunting, with the understanding that if he EVER SOLD IT I could buy it back for the same $100. We did not talk for the next deer season then we talked after the season closed. He was all excited about the 742 30-06 he had bought in the off season. I said that is GREAT, you are building a nice collection. Now you have a 30-30 and a 30-06. He replied, "oh no, I sold that 30-30 and you will not believe what the guy gave me for it", I stopped him right there. He said, let me tell you the rest of it. I said no thank you. He asked why I was upset. I said if you don't know I can't explain it to you.
I have a JM Marlin in 35 that I bought from a different buddy about 10-12 years ago for $100 with the same understanding. That gun is not for sale and never will be as long as both of us are alive.
Am I an idiot for expecting a man to keep his word when he gives it to me? My dad told me many years ago that a man is only as good as his word. I live by that statement.
If I tell you a chicken can plow, hook her up.

We did, when I sold it to him at that kind of dirt cheap price so he could get into hunting, I was crystal clear on the terms of the sale and he agreed to them. What kind of agreement would I want to have with a man who will tell you anything to achieve his goal?Exactly. But y'all should've been able to come to a reasonable agreement
That book closed, ship sailed, water under the bridge, milk spilled and all the other sayings. Now I hate it because that was a beautiful 99 and a great shooter as well. 30-30 is one of my favorite lever guns.He and I would not be friends anymore lol
